Identity

A collection of five portraits that represent identity and what has contributed to my own identity.

I believe that making connections is embedded in us due to our human nature and the world we live in.  Everything is connected to something, and connections are built every day.  My work reflects the connections I make between the world around me and my perspective on concepts and issues.  I believe that who we are as individuals is connected to our environment, especially the one we grew up in and the people around us during that time.  Therefore, our identity is influenced by our environment, the changes in it, and the people around us.

At the same time, my work highlights the connections we overlook, ignore, or have forgotten.  Such as details in people’s facial expressions when they show emotion.  These are expressions of a person’s identity that we do not value enough until they are no longer in our lives.  Therefore, those expressions are what I strive to highlight in my portraits.
